Riot admits First Blood Feats of Strength mistake, plans rework for League of Legends
Riot Games acknowledges issues with League of Legends' newly introduced Feats of Strength mechanic and plans to rework the first blood requirement just days after its release.
The Noxus-themed season introduced Feats of Strength with three main objectives:
- First blood
- First turret takedown
- First to slay three epic monster camps
Players who complete these objectives earn unique upgrades to their Triumphant boots, creating an additional win condition. However, League lead designer Matt "Phroxzon" Leung-Harrison admits the first blood requirement is causing excessive friction and needs adjustment.

While the first turret and epic monster objectives provide balanced gameplay opportunities due to their time-based nature, the first blood requirement has proven problematic because:
- It can be arbitrary and feel like a coin flip
- Forces defensive play until first kill
- Disadvantages certain team compositions
- Provides unequal opportunities for both teams

Riot plans to implement changes in either patch 15.2 or 15.3, replacing the first blood component with an alternative that offers both teams fair chances to earn Feats of Strength benefits.
"We messed up here and it should have been changed pre-release, but we're going to own that mistake, learn from it and do better for next time," Phroxzon stated, acknowledging the need for improvement while confirming that ranked match data shows reasonable overall game impact from the mechanic.
