League of Legends' bounty system is facing significant criticism from players after recent LEC matches revealed potential flaws in its implementation.

A recent LEC Winter Split playoffs match between Karmine Corp and Vitality highlighted the issue. K'Sante had a 153g bounty despite his team being at a significant disadvantage (down 4k gold, two turrets, and six void grubs at 17 minutes). Meanwhile, enemy champions with multiple kills and no deaths had no bounties.

The bounty system's evolution:

  • Originally: Simple system based on kill streaks (3+ kills)
  • 2018 Update: Added minion and jungle monster gold to calculations
  • Patch 14.21: Switched to total gold earned/given away system

Professional player Tim "Nemesis" Lipovšek has also reported experiencing bounties while his team was 10,000 gold behind, further highlighting the system's inconsistencies.

League gameplay designer David "Phreak" Turley acknowledged the issue, stating: "Something is weird here." He confirmed the team will investigate the problem, suggesting the displayed values may be incorrect.

Current concerns:

  • System appears to reward winning teams instead of helping losing teams
  • May prevent comebacks and make games more one-sided
  • Possible visual bugs in spectator mode
  • Reports of similar issues in regular matches

Riot Games is currently investigating these issues, but players continue to experience potentially incorrect bounty values that could impact their ability to recover from losing positions.
