Path of Exile 2 Devs Warn of Server Queues as Early Access Sales Hit 1 Million
Path of Exile 2's early access has surpassed one million purchases, prompting developers to warn players about potential server issues during launch weekend.
Grinding Gear Games co-founder Jonathan Rogers shared this milestone on X, expressing both excitement and concern about the unexpected number of early access purchases. The development team is rapidly deploying additional servers to handle the massive player influx, though uncertainties remain about the backend's capacity to manage simultaneous connections.
"Thank you guys so much for believing in this project. If we do run into server issues at launch, just know that we're going to be working as hard as we can to solve them," Rogers stated.
Following in the footsteps of its predecessor, Path of Exile 2 builds upon the successful formula that made the original game one of the most popular action RPGs. While it draws inspiration from Diablo 2, it maintains its free-to-play, live-service model. The game is scheduled for a free-to-play release in approximately six months, according to Steam.
The overwhelming number of early access purchases, despite the upcoming free-to-play release, demonstrates the community's strong enthusiasm and trust in the project. Players can access Path of Exile 2's early access starting December 6 at 1pm CT.
