Monsters are neutral units in League of Legends that reside in the jungle. Unlike minions, they only attack when provoked, with the exception of the Rift Scuttler which runs away when attacked.

Monster Behavior:

  • Located in designated jungle camps
  • Become aggressive only when attacked
  • Target nearest champion when aggro'd
  • Have maximum leash range before losing patience
  • Enter soft reset when patience depletes (heal 6% max health/sec)
  • Hard reset if soft reset expires (rapid heal and return)

Key Monster Types:

  • Epic Monsters: Baron Nashor, Dragons, Rift Herald
  • Large Monsters: Blue Sentinel, Red Brambleback, Ancient Krug, etc.
  • Small Monsters: Wolves, Raptors, etc.

Monster Rewards:

  • Gold and XP for killer
  • Special buffs from certain monsters:
    • Blue/Red buff from respective camps
    • Dragon Slayer stacks from Dragons
    • Hand of Baron from Baron Nashor
    • Eye of Herald from Rift Herald

Important Mechanics:

  • Camps have specific respawn timers
  • Monsters level up as game progresses
  • Vision required for accurate camp timers
  • Reduced rewards without jungle items
  • Various interactions with champion abilities

The jungle monster system creates strategic depth through camp control, buff management, and objective securing while providing resources to help champions scale throughout the game.
