
League of Legends Global Server Network and Infrastructure Guide
Riot Games operates multiple servers worldwide for League of Legends, hosting everything from logins and games to chat and the RP Store. These servers help reduce latency and overcome language barriers for players globally.
Server Regions and Operators
Most servers are operated directly by Riot Games, with one notable exception:
- China's servers are managed by Tencent (Riot's parent company)
Official registered Riot servers (2015).
Southeast Asia Server Changes
As of January 2023, Riot Games ended its partnership with Garena and took direct control of publishing in Southeast Asia, with two exceptions:
- Vietnam (VN) - partnered with VNG Corporation
- Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau (TW) - partnered with Taiwan Mobile
A significant merger is planned for January 9, 2025, combining:
- Philippines
- Thailand
- Singapore/Malaysia/Indonesia Into a single Southeast Asian server
China Server Structure
China operates 29 servers through Tencent Game:
- 19 hosted by China Telecom
- 7 hosted by China Unicom Each server can accommodate up to 650,000 players and supports Mandarin Chinese and Simplified Mandarin Chinese.
Server Transfers
- Cost: 2600 RP for most transfers
- Restrictions:
- RU, TR, BR, LAN, and LAS have limited transfer options
- KR requires national ID credentials
- CN transfers are not available due to third-party hosting
Special Clients
Riot maintains special clients for:
- Testing purposes
- Tournaments
- Esports events These clients may run different versions from the live client and can access offline (LAN) servers.
Esports Servers
Multiple dedicated servers exist for tournaments, including:
- Global servers (TRLH1-4, TRLT1-4)
- Regional servers (TREU, TRNA1, TRKR1, etc.)
- Tournament-specific servers (ESPORTSTMNT01-06)
- Location-specific servers (Frankfurt, Chicago, Tokyo, etc.)
