League of Legends: Champion Experience & Leveling Guide
Experience is a core game mechanic that allows champions to level up by earning experience points (XP) during matches. Champions start at level 1 and require increasing amounts of XP to reach each subsequent level.
There are five main ways to gain experience:
- Champion Takedowns:
- Solo kills: 42-990 XP (based on enemy level)
- Assists: 28-990 XP (shared among participants)
- Level difference modifiers apply:
- Higher level than target: -24/48/60% XP
- Lower level than target: +20% per level difference (after 2 levels)
- Proximity to Minion Deaths:
- Must be within 1400 units
- Last-hitting always grants XP regardless of distance
- Solo XP: 95% of base value
- Shared XP: 124% of base value (split among nearby champions)
- Jungle Monsters:
- Most camps grant XP only to killer
- Baron Nashor: Global team XP
- Rift Herald: 300 XP to nearby (600 units) team members
- Death Proximity:
- Gain XP from nearby enemy deaths up to 10 seconds after dying
- ARAM-specific:
- Passive 5 XP per second from Howling Abyss Aura
Experience Sharing Breakdown:
- Two champions: 65.26% each
- Three champions: 43.51% each
- Four champions: 32.63% each
- Five champions: 26.11% each
- Six champions: 21.75% each

Experience requirements increase with each level, and certain items have specific level requirements to purchase or upgrade.
