League of Legends Attack Speed Guide - Full Breakdown & Calculations
Attack speed is a stat that determines how fast a unit can perform basic attacks, measured in attacks per second. Here's everything you need to know about attack speed in League of Legends:
Core Mechanics:
- Base attack speed varies by champion but is fixed at level 1
- Bonus attack speed stacks additively and is a percentage of the attack speed ratio
- Capped at 2.5 attacks per second (except for specific exceptions)
- Cannot be reduced below 0.2 attacks per second
- Has a gold value of 25 per percent point
Calculation Formula: Total Attack Speed = Base Attack Speed + (Attack Speed Ratio × Bonus Attack Speed%)
Sources of Attack Speed:
- Champion levels (growth per level varies by champion)
- Items (like Berserker's Greaves, Nashor's Tooth)
- Champion abilities
- Runes (Lethal Tempo, Hail of Blades)
- Team buffs (from allies like Lulu, Nidalee)
Notable Exceptions:
- Jhin cannot increase attack speed through normal means
- Graves has a special attack speed calculation
- Bel'Veth can exceed the attack speed cap by default
- Some champions start with modified base attack speeds
Attack Speed Cap Modifiers:
- Jinx's Get Excited!
- Varus' Living Vengeance (2.7632 cap)
- Zeri's Burst Fire (1.5 cap)
Attack speed also scales various champion abilities and effects, even when exceeding the attack speed cap, making it valuable beyond just basic attack frequency.
