Chess Super-GM Nepomniachtchi Joins Dota 2 Tournament: From World Championship Chess to MOBA Competition
Chess grandmaster Ian Nepomniachtchi, currently ranked eighth in the world, is competing in BetBoom's Streamers Battle Dota 2 tournament, marking an interesting crossover between professional chess and esports.

Nepomniachtchi, known as "Nepo" in chess circles, brings significant gaming experience to the tournament. In 2011, he won the ASUS Winter Open Dota 2 tournament, competing under the name BloodAngel and defeating prominent teams like NAVI.

Beyond Dota 2, Nepomniachtchi has also achieved notable success in Hearthstone, reaching high ladder positions. He even introduced fellow Russian grandmaster Peter Svidler to the game, who occasionally streams it.
This isn't the first crossover between chess and esports. Mongolian Counter-Strike player Garidmagnai "bLitz" Byambasuren, who leads The MongolZ team, holds a FIDE Master title with a 2369 Elo rating.
The eighth edition of BetBoom's Streamers Battle features other notable personalities, including Sheever and footballer Aleksandr Golovin. The tournament can be viewed on the official YouTube broadcast and NarodCast on Twitch, though commentary is primarily in Russian.
